Shannons have launched a competition where you can win “Two American Legends” - an Indian Scout Bobber Twenty and a RAM 1500 Express pickup. CFMoto have upgraded their popular, LAMS-legal 650NK naked commuter with the 650NK SP. The first release in what CFMoto say are many new and exciting models coming in 2021, the 650NK SP is essentially a spec upgrade on the 650NK. There are no changes to the tube steel diamond frame and swingarm, while the DOHC liquid-cooled 650cc parallel twin engine that’s Euro 5 compliant and produces 41.5kW and 62Nm is unchanged mechanically, but adds a new-look muffler. The 6-speed gearbox has been tweaked, though, and now delivers what CFMoto say are optimised gear changes. Enhancing this is the addition of a slipper clutch as part of the SP spec. Yamaha Factory Racing are celebrating the 60th Anniversary of their debut in grand prix competition back in 1961, with several initiatives and activities planned for this year. The first was presented on the eve of the 2021 FIM MotoGP World Championship, at the Qatar MotoGP Test, where a retro look for the YZR-M1 of Yamaha’s new test rider signing, Cal Crutchlow, was unveiled. BMW Motorrad are no strangers to the factory-supported custom game. JUST BIKES has featured many factory-sponsored, BMW-based creations from some of the world’s best builders in the past, particularly units based on the R nineT. Now, with their R 18 cruiser, BMW are looking to get that model in front of as many eyeballs as possible, so they’ve commissioned a fresh series of custom creations from third-party builders, as well as a couple that they produced themselves. One of those outside builders to get a gig was Bernhard Naumann, better known as “Blechmann” (“Tin Man” in German, or “Tinny” more specifically) for his handiwork in forming complex shapes in metal. The reborn Brough Superior motorcycle company has released a new model – the Lawrence. A bike that looks both forward and back, the Lawrence features modernised styling, but takes its name from the most famous client of the original Brough Superior brand – T.E. Lawrence. Better known as Lawrence of Arabia (and immortalized in the 1962 movie of the same name), Thomas Edward Lawrence was an avid motorcyclist, with a passion for going fast. In the 1920s and ‘30s, a Brough Superior was the best machine to fulfill that passion and Lawrence owned no fewer than seven of them (some sources say eight), including sidevalve SS 80 and overhead valve SS 100 v-twin machines, which were capable of achieving 80mph (128km/h) and 100mph (160km/h), respectively. The second version of BMW’s classically-inspired R18 cruiser, the R 18 Classic, has arrived in Australia. Joining the base model variant that debuted last year, the R 18 Classic is a simpler version of the R 18 that comes with many touring-specific features as standard. The big 1802cc boxer twin is unchanged as the bike’s focal point, and while a “no frills technology” tag suggests the R18 Classic is lacking in rider assistance features, there’s still ABS, ASC, three riding modes, keyless starting and running, cruise control and dynamic engine braking control as standard. Three grades will be available: the base R 18 Classic; R 18 Classic Custom; and R 18 Classic Deluxe. Kawasaki Racing Team have launched their campaign for this year’s Motul FIM Superbike World Championship with presentation of the new livery on the Ninja ZX-10RR and new-look leathers for team riders Alex Lowes and Jonathan Rea. While the WSBK season start has been delayed to late May, Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) have joined most of their WSBK rivals in revealing their 2021 livery well in advance. Overall, the 2021 KRT livery is said to be inspired by Kawasaki’s superbikes from the 1990s, and while Kawasaki corporate green remains prominent, including an all-green front mudguard and more green on the tank and tail, there are a few notable differences for 2021. Triumph has released details of Phase 2 of their electric motorcycle programme, presenting a finished powertrain prototype and renderings of the bike that this powertrain will be fitted to in the future. Phase 1 of the four-phase programme got underway in May, 2019, when Triumph announced a collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering (an offshoot of the Williams Racing F1 team), Integral Powertrain and WMG at the University of Warwick to develop a “sporting electric motorcycle”. What was planned as a two-year project has been delayed by the impact of COVID-19, but March’s announcement detailing Phase 2’s completion of an electric powertrain prototype and battery shows the UK Government-funded initiative is back on track. Triumph are leading the project, providing all the cycle parts and specifying what’s required from their partners.…

Further changes have been made to the 2021 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship calendar, including a new opening round in Aragon and the addition of a new circuit. On 9 March, the FIM and Dorna World Superbike Organisation (DWO) announced the updated calendar, citing the changes were necessary due to ongoing local restrictions on mass gatherings and travel under COVID-19. This year’s season had originally been scheduled to start in Assen on 23-25 April, with only European rounds held before the flyaways began in October. Back on 16 February, DWO announced that the Assen round had been rescheduled to 23-25 July and the new season opener would be at Estoril, Portugal, on 7-9 May.
