The Sportster enters 2021 with ongoing rumours over its future in the Harley-Davidson lineup. Granted, these rumours have been circulating for years, but they gained new momentum ahead of the announcement of the 2021 range. As the Sportster’s air-cooled Evolution engine doesn’t meet Euro 5 emissions standards, it was announced back in September that the model will not be offered in European markets from the start of 2021. After Australia finally got Harley-Davidson’s Tri Glide Ultra and Freewheeler factory three-wheelers in 2017, there have been some changes, most notably the switch from the Milwaukee-Eight 107 to the Milwaukee-Eight 114 for 2019. For 2021, the Milwaukee-Eight 114 v-twin continues, putting out 159Nm at 3,000rpm on both Trike variants. Interestingly, this is down marginally on the listed maximum of 162Nm at 3,250rpm for the MY20 Trikes. At time of writing, the reason behind this mild detuning had not been revealed.
