HONDA TO EXIT AUSTRALIAN ATV MARKET

Honda is the latest brand to announce their intention to withdraw their ATVs from the Australian market ahead of the introduction of mandatory safety devices for these vehicles. Rather than add the Operator Protection Devices (OPDs) that will be mandatory on all new ATVs from 11 October, 2021, Honda announced on 31 March that they will join Polaris and Yamaha in ending sales of their utility ATV range in Australia. “The new Standard is extremely disappointing for farm safety and the countless farmers who rely on quad bikes every day. The safety of our customers is paramount, we will never compromise on this. ROYAL ENFIELD EXPANDS HIMALAYAN COLOUR OPTIONS

When Royal Enfield announced details on the 2020 version of their Himalayan adventure bike last year, the big news was the addition of ABS and electronic fuel injection. They remain the major changes, but now there’s new style choices, too. When it launched in Australia in 2017, the Himalayan could be had in Snow or Granite, with the funky, camouflage-look Sleet colour scheme arriving in 2018. For 2020, three new colour options have been added – Gravel Grey, Rock Red and Lake Blue. The latter two add a two-tone finish to the fuel tank, in the style of the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 – black and red for Rock Red and blue and white for Lake Blue. IANNONE COPS 18-MONTH MOTOGP BAN

After returning a positive test for a prohibited substance at last year’s Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Aprilia Racing Team Gresini’s Andrea Iannone has been banned from competition by the FIM for 18 months. The in-competition doping test, conducted at Sepang on 3 November, saw Iannone test positive for ‘Drostanolone metabolite 2 -methyl-5 -androstane-3 -ol-17-one,’ a steroid that’s a WADA prohibited substance under the FIM Anti-doping Code. Provisionally suspended by the FIM after the results of the A and B samples were released on 17 December, Iannone had his suspension formalised on 31 March, following a hearing by the FIM International Disciplinary Court in February. Effective from 17 December, 2019, the 18-month ban will exclude Iannone from the entire 2020 MotoGP season (including testing) and a portion of the next season…

CFMoto are set to expand their range of LAMS motorcycles with the imminent release of the 300SR, which the manufacturer says is their first fully-faired sports bike. The 650GT offers a fairing, but that model’s a tourer, while the 300SR is being pitched as a proper sports bike; a model that’s said to offer the perfect temperament for riding around town during the week and hitting the racetrack on the weekends. March is usually a big month for the motorcycle industry in Japan, with the Osaka Motorcycle Show followed by the Tokyo Motorcycle Show. However, in the current climate, both shows were cancelled, so new product launches have gone ‘virtual’, including the unveiling of Honda’s ‘CB-F Concept’. Making its world premiere online on 27 March, the CB-F Concept revisits the CB series’ extensive history, which reached its sixth decade last year. Honda says the approach their designers took was to thoroughly explore what to preserve and what to evolve with the company’s flagship sports bike. The Monster Energy Yamaha Rally Official Team have welcomed two new riders to their line-up for the 2020 FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship, with Ross Branch and Andrew Short joining the squad. Short comes to Yamaha after two years with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team, prior to which the American raced motocross for 16 years and was part of Team USA’s successful MX des Nations team in 2010. YAMAHA TO DISCONTINUE UTILITY ATV SALES IN AUSTRALIA

Following the announcement by Polaris that they would exit the Australian ATV market this year, Yamaha Motor Australia (YMA) confirmed on 18 March that they will follow suit, but are only withdrawing their utility ATVs and will make that withdrawal a year after Polaris, on the eve of the mandatory requirement for Operator Protection Devices (OPD), which comes into effect on 11 October, 2021. With MotoGP in lockdown, how do Jack Miller fans get their fix of the Aussie star? Well, they could start with this bike.
