The young owners of this Sydney apartment wanted their kitchen to make a great impression. Located opposite the front door and a state-of-the-art wine cellar, it’s one of the first things you see when you enter the home, so they chose an exceptional marble – Calacatta Viola – for their island bench and the splashback-topped prep space behind. Self-taught chef Xinyi Lim originally trained and practiced as a lawyer, working in cities such as Hong Kong, The Hague and Sydney. However, her career as a chef started eight years ago in New York. Architectural forms abound in Jane McKenzie’s ceramic sculptures, and her Home Of The Year (HOTY) trophies, shown top left, are no exception.
