Last night my boyfriend and I stayed home and ate a platter of fresh oysters for dinner. The plates overflowed with three varieties from three farms up and down Australia’s East Coast, from Nambucca to Merimbula. Each was slightly different, but all were creamy and delicious and arrived via contact-free delivery from a refrigerated van. Home-delivered oysters… why have we not been doing this the whole time? This is one thing that will stick around after COVID-19 recedes. Good, locally grown and made products and door-to-door service will stay – that will be the new normal. And why not? Recently, I’ve received 10 hydrangea saplings in the mail (posted from the Mornington Peninsula) and my cookbook orders have been turning up on the doorstep. My goldfish need more aquatic plants…

Tell us about yourself, your upbringing, and why you were drawn to the art/makers world I am a Sydney-based ceramic artist and designer from the Sunshine State. I moved to Sydney to study a Bachelor of Design, and as soon as I started working with clay I fell in love with the material and knew I wanted to continue to make. Maria and Troy McGlone fell in love with the period charm of their 100-year-old California bungalow as soon as they stepped through the character-filled front door. The rooms might have been small and poky and the single-storey floor plan limited, but the feature details were enough for the couple to sign up for the home in the Melbourne seaside suburb of Sandringham. However, just before Christmas that year our builder asked us where the engineering drawings for the bench were. We didn’t know we needed them, and quickly decided it was the wrong time of year to start new drawings, so we canned that idea and spent the next few weeks working out what to do instead. The outcome was a custom ledge with built-in joinery in the same timber veneer used throughout the house. We are very happy with the result — it worked out well in the end.”…
