Telangana’s economy has been resilient and shown remarkable growth. The net per capita income (PCI) of Rs 2,33,325 was the second highest among big states in 2019-20, and rose to Rs 2,37,632 in 2020-21 when the all-India national PCI was Rs 1,28,829.
Telangana is the 11th largest state in geographical area and 12th in terms of population in the country. However, it stood fourth (Rs 8,10,503 crore in 2020-21) in contributing to the economy of the country, with only Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and West Bengal ahead of it. “Telangana, which came into being just seven years back, now contributes 5 per cent to the country’s GDP,” says the state minister for industries, IT and urban development K.T. Rama Rao.
