Sudhir Mishra’s version of Devdas,like its inverted title, aims to turn the story on its head. Known for political films likeMeinZinda Huun(1988),Dharavi(1993)andHazaaron KhwaisheinAisi(2005), Mishra didn’t want to focus on addiction or love, like previous adaptations of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s masterpiece. Instead, his upcoming DaasDev, set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh politics, is focused on power.
“In my head, Dev’s addiction to alcohol was lured into an addiction of power.
