After World War Two, this property housed five families and the living room was a grocer’s shop! It meant that the ground floor and basement had been turned into a warren of rooms. We’ve tried to restore its original character, while keeping it practical and modern for a busy family. Respect the past without replicating it. We didn’t try to faithfully restore the original features in this house, but were inspired by how it might have looked. We lifted the original floor tiles in the basement and re-laid them in the kitchen, where they’d be seen. Sandblasting the oak flooring elsewhere was a good idea, too.
