“SAUCY by name, saucy by nature,” is how the BE80 regional championship section I winner, Shirley Cadwallader, describes her 11-year-old homebred mare, The Sauce Pot.
“She’s the boss of everybody, and when she’s not she really expresses it,” said the 74-year-old retired physiotherapist, who also won at Chillington (1) in June but was forced to put her hand up and retire last time out at Friekley when “Saucy” took aversion to a pile of shavings by the side of a fence.
Breeding is a passion for Shirley, who has bred four foals altogether, including Saucy’s half-brother, The King Of Leon, who is competing successfully with her daughterin-law, Samantha Cadwallader.
