“IT’S been a funny old season,” admitted grandmother and mother of four Corinne Roberts, who put a run of “unfortunate blips” firmly behind her to capture novice section B.
Corinne’s winning partner was the 13-year-old Recession (Fred), an attractive chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail.
“I bought him as a just-backed four-year-old from his breeder, Sue Rawding,” explained Corinne. “My daughter used to compete him, but when she hung up her boots and went to university, I took him on. We struggled a bit moving up to two-star and things kept going wrong – silly things like missing out fences – but my trainers, Claire Knowles, Ricky Hill and, more recently, Chris Bartle, have been so supportive, they truly deserve a medal.”
