IT has been quite a season for permit holder Ann and Ian Hamilton, Northumberland hill farmers from Bavington (hence their four-time winning novice chaser, Bavington Bob).
Next week, the sheep and cattle farmers with just six horses will take on the might of Willie Mullins, Henry de Bromhead, Gordon Elliott and Nicky Henderson (who probably have an aggregate of 1,000 horses between them) when they run Tommy’s Oscar, the highest-rated British horse, in the Unibet Champion Hurdle to sustain one of the great Cheltenham traditions – David versus Goliath (see preview, p42).
