THE Queen’s broadcast on Saturday urged Britons to find self-discipline, quiet good-humoured resolve and fellow-feeling. I’m digging deep on the middle one.
Athletes are well versed in calling on all such resolve. Editors a little less so. I was buoyed, though, and hope readers will be, too, by Charlie Unwin’s excellent new series starting in this week’s issue (p32).
His advice is certainly useful for riders and utilised by athletes, but it is pertinent for everyone right now. As he states: “It is not adversity itself that affects us during times like this, rather it’s our attitude towards it.” Reframing health fears, job losses and solitary confinement is easier said than done, but I completely take his point.
