A four-year-old first ridden mare, contesting only her third-ever show under saddle, produced a foot-perfect performance to stand winter novice supreme champion.
All eight winter novice finalists were forward at the end of a long day and standards were high, but there was no denying Hayley Grota’s Debbie Thomas-produced Welsh section A Nantfforchog Blue Moondust (Dusty). This charming grey, Heritage mini champion earlier in the evening after winning her class by nine marks, belied her lack of mileage to carry her little jockey, Libby Grota, 12, like a seasoned pro, never putting a foot out of place. Moreover, she did it all with a smile on her face.
