THE United States has joined the leading equestrian nations questioning the merits of high-speed endurance in the United Arab Emirates.
Last week, US Equestrian (USEF) advised that it will disregard riders’ future results from Dubai International Endurance City (DIEC) when selecting its team for the 2018 World Equestrian Games, which will be hosted by the US at Tryon, North Carolina.
USEF’s advisory note states: “This stance will remain in place until significant and tangible changes in horse welfare issues have been implemented and consistently demonstrated.”
While stopping short of a boycott, this is a major policy change by the US, the “home” of classic endurance.
