THE result of the Virginia Hound Show, held at Morven Park, Virginia, USA, on 29 May, hinged upon movement this year, reports Octavia Pollock.
Cross-bred hound Midland Striker 15, with his notably long shoulders and graceful stride, was a clear winner of the Grand Championship. Joint-master of the Cottesmore, Andrew Osborne, who was judging the English ring, saw immediately that his own hunt’s work in breeding reserve champion Iroquois Hackle 12 — a pretty English bitch (Cottesmore Hawkeye-Cottesmore Baffle) — would be struck out.
“When he moved, I just knew,” he said, with a certain amount of regret. “He’s like a panther.”
