A new Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF) centre has had more than 1,000 appointments on its books since it opened its doors a year ago, writes Lucy Elder.
Jack Berry House in Malton, North Yorkshire, offers the same state-of-the-art facilities as the charity’s southern base, Oaksey House in Lambourn, plus a hydrotherapy pool, but is more easily accessible for jockeys in the north of the country. So far there have been 3,000 gym “sign-ins”, as well as numerous physio, strength and conditioning, and hydrotherapy pool sessions taking place.
“The north was crying out for a facility similar to Oaksey,” said Jo Ruffell, the centre’s general manager. “Previously, jockeys would have to travel hundreds of miles to get specific treatment.
