SARAH PARKES picked up her first international victory, finishing on her dressage score in an action-packed CIC* with new ride Cyres.
Lying fourth after the dressage, a rare clear showjumping round moved her up a place, giving her every chance cross-country. The leaders going into cross-country, Philippa Nixon and Arctic Cruising, faulted at the influential double of shoulder brushes at four, and Sam Ecroyd, in second, piloted Opera House to a sympathetic round, clocking up over 20 time-penalties.
With all to play for, Sarah gave Francesca Swallow’s eight-year-old a bold ride.
“I’ll admit to taking the flag on 4b and I swear he looked into the ditch at the brush at 14, but they were the only hairy moments,” she said.
