Retro 3.5L slow cooker in Cream, £29.99, Salter This oval slow cooker looks gorgeous, has a generous pot and delivers a consistent, even cook. Its capacity easily served four with leftovers, and the lid and handles stayed cool to the touch, even after eight hours on low. The ceramic pot isn't hob-safe, so I seared meat and veg in a pan first, but that's the only downside. It offers three heat settings – high, low and keep warm – plus a handy light to show when it's on.
