Sweet potato with cinnamon I like to use long, thin sweet potatoes so that the cut rounds are smaller. Serves 4 as a side dish • 45ml butter • 5ml olive oil • 500g orange sweet potato, scrubbed and cut into 1cm slices • 60ml brown sugar • 2 cinnamon sticks • 15ml lemon juice 1 Melt half of the butter with the olive oil in a heavy-bottomed pan. Add the sweet potato and fry until the slices are golden-brown on both sides; turn over as needed. 2 Stir in the sugar, cinnamon and about 80ml boiling water. Marina Smith of Stellenbosch writes I recently planted three Duranta ‘Sheena's Gold’ in terracotta pots, which I've placed in a spot that gets full sun most of the day in summer, and morning sun and semi-shade after lunch in winter. However, I noticed during this past winter that some of the leaves turned black. What could be the problem? Or is this something that I don't need to worry about? The plants look healthy otherwise. Brined pork chops with harissa These delicious chops are marinated in a salt-and-sugar brine which ensures that the meat is soft, succulent and well-seasoned.
