Vertical gardening is all about growing plants upwards or downwards – along fences, walls, balcony rails, in hanging baskets, retaining blocks, vertical planters or recycled gutters. It has its advantages too, in that gardening vertically reduces fungal diseases as the air circulation around the leaves is better and it is easier to water plants without wetting the leaves. Keeping the fruits off the ground also helps to prevent them from rotting.
