But after more than two years of travel restrictions, the script has flipped – we now want our homes to feel like hotels, or homes that remind us of our fond travel memories, and how big the world is. The lady of the house wanted a place where she could just kick-back and relax, a glorious and glamorous sanctuary for the times when she was not busy taming the urban jungle outside her door. Yu Qiang & Partners and EK Design got the message, combining their modernist sensibility and design flair, and transforming a two-storey duplex in Zhejiang Province, China, to fit this vision. “The female client craves freedom and wants to follow her love for art and fashion in the private resort residence. “The clients are a young couple who live with a pet. This style – the native architecture of Lisbon – arose in the aftermath of an earthquake in 1755, when under the directive of Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, marquês de Pombal, the devastated city was revived with these new, anti-seismic buildings which have a strong neoclassical character.
