THE CLIENT Number 1 Kentwell Road offers independent accommodation to overseas students, particularly those from Japan. The client requested a redesigned space that would provide an appropriate transitional home for students through the inclusion of design elements inspired by Japanese culture. THE BRIEF The brief called for a redesign that would accommodate the maximum number of students while also allowing space for breakout areas, study rooms and living room facilities. An existing swimming pool at the front of the house was to be transformed into a serene space a lack of usable space needed to be addressed and replaced with more practical areas.
