Sony has launched two new native 4K home cinema projectors, both utilizing its advanced X1 for Projector picture processor.
The high-end VPL-VW890ES (£25,000) is a laser model, with premium All-Range Crisp Focus (ARC-F) lens, while the VPL-VW290ES is an entry-level (£5,500) lamp model. Like the rest of Sony’s 2021 projection fleet, they're built around Sony’s 4K SXRD panel, which supports resolutions up 4,096 x 2,160. The duo replace the previous VPL-VW870ES and VPL-VW270ES beamers.
X1 for Projector, already seen on the VW590ES [HCC #317] and VW790ES [HCC #316], supports Reality Creation upscaling and packs a Dynamic HDR Enhancer, which analyses scenes frame by frame for optimum contrast, saturation and fine detail.
