A recent report from Portugal’s National Authority of Medicines and Health Products (also called Infarmed) showed the newest data about Portugal’s medical cannabis industry. In the first half of 2023, the country exported 5,348 kilograms (nearly 12,000 pounds) of medical cannabis, which is a steady increase from its full-year export data for 2022, which reached 9,271 kilograms (slightly more than 20,439 pounds). Portugal exported 4,850 kilograms (10,692 pounds) in 2020, followed by 5,694 kilograms (12,553 pounds) in 2021. The most recent data shows that Germany received the most exports from Portugal within the first half of 2023 with 1,678 kilograms (or 3,699 pounds), followed by Poland (1,589 kilograms/3,503 pounds), Australia (955 kilograms/2,105 pounds), Spain (600 kilograms/1,323 pounds), and Malta (106 kilograms/234 pounds).
