DEPARTING BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA ON A FOGGY Wednesday morning, I was in for a treat. I knew I was headed to my favorite place and to what is, in my experience, the best cannabis farm in the world. The European country of Luxembourg, which shares its borders with Belgium, France, and Germany, is one of the richest countries in the world (in terms of gross domestic product per capita). As of this summer, legal cannabis will be added to the country’s list of perks that it’s becoming well-known for. Bill 8033 went into effect on July 21 and legalized cannabis sales and possession up to 3 grams outside of their home (any more than that could net up to six months in prison). Additionally, the country now allows residents to cultivate up to four plants per household, as long as they can’t be seen from local roads. Americans for Safe Access (ASA) recently released a report that examined existing discrepancies for cannabis testing programs in legal cannabis states. In a foreword to the report, entitled “Regulating Patient Health: An Analysis of Disparities in State Cannabis Testing Programs,” ASA interim associate executive director of the Division of Public Health Practice and Policy at the American Public Health Association, Mighty Fine, emphasized the importance of consistency for the sake of all patients and consumers. “With an increasing number of individuals relying on medical cannabis for their health care needs, we must ensure access to safe and reliable products,” Fine said. “By examining the importance of testing cannabis for contaminants through the lens of patient safety, this report underscores the need for robust testing frameworks and regulatory mechanisms.” The report…

The average price of an ounce in America remains at $297, as the South (up $1) and the West (up $6) experienced modest gains, while prices in the East went down a mere $5 to $304. A recent study published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research found that consuming cannabis is sometimes associated with a more positive experience and reduced pain when exercising. The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Colorado, Boulder, who surveyed 49 runners between the ages of 21 and 49, who ran 3.88 miles and reported their experience both before and after consuming cannabis. “The use of cannabis with various forms of exercise (e.g., running) has received increased media attention in recent years, contradicting the popular stereotype that cannabis is associated with sedentary behavior,” researchers explained. “Although cross-sectional evidence suggests a positive association between cannabis use and exercise engagement, to date, the acute effects of cannabis on exercise remain unclear.” The study results showed that participants experienced fewer negative effects from…

I read that lonely people drink more alcohol but does that also apply to cannabis? I hate getting high when I’m feeling lonely. What does the research say about people like me? -Brian J.
