“Are Cannabis Users Less Likely to Gain Weight?” asks a recent study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology. The answer is yes, we are. “We found that users, even those who just started, were more likely to be at a normal, healthier weight and stay at that weight,” said Omayma Alshaarawy, lead author and an assistant professor of family medicine. The Canadian government is trying out a new device to detect THC in automobile drivers. The saliva test, called the Abbott SoToxa, consists of three pieces of equipment—the analyzer, the spit collector and the cartridge for holding the sample in place—to be used by police for roadside drug screenings. Canadian cops are on the record doubting the efficacy of the current approved test, the Dräger DrugTest 5000, fearing its results would have trouble holding up in court.
