“Our music is so not what you think of when you think of stoner music—but, by any measure, we are a stoner band.” Variously described as “progressive” or “experimental” black metal, and always discussed as a band of virtuosos, NYC’s Krallice established their mastery of extreme dissonance with their 2009 debut, Dimensional Bleedthrough, a compendium of seethingly complex guitar noise and unholy blast-beat drumming, complemented by hot-throated, raspy shrieks. Since then, they’ve released four more albums—no mean feat, given that all four members play in (or, in the case of guitarist Colin Marston, produce) multiple bands.
