In direct contrast to Falcon’s almost molecular-level reconstruction of the original LS3/5a, this is a somewhat less reverential and more revisionist riff on the whole BBC correct mid-centric mini monitor, using different drivers and a box that’s deeper than it is wide, though – like its illustrious forbears – it is sealed rather than ported. Then again, Graham Audio produces an entire family of faithfully adhered-to classic BBC designs, including the LS3/5 as well as the LS3/5a, so the LS3, conceptualised by Derek Hughes (son of BBC speaker engineer Spencer), has the laudable aims of shooting for comparably lofty sonic goals in a rather smarter, more contemporary-looking cabinet wearing a substantially lower price tag.
