Last year I wrote about the evidence given by musicians such as the likes of Nile Rodgers, Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien, Elbow’s Guy Garvey and Nadine Shah to the enquiry by a House of Commons committee into the economics of the modern music industry. It is the basis for how many of us do at least a portion of our listening, but even so the number of companies involved in building network audio equipment remains suprisingly small. The reason is simple: developing the hardware is only part of the challenge; without a decent control app, the results are practically unusable. This makes the Silent Angel Bremen B1 a rather unusual device. The international production capacity for pressing LPs, which was already strained before the pandemic, then found that its supply chains were being disrupted as a result of lockdown.
