With its exposed brick, white walls, wooden floors, clean lines, minimal furnishings, neon signs, Coolicon-style lights (a nod to Delia Derbyshire’s favourite noise-making instrument, perhaps?) and potted plants, this light-flooded, blue-fronted space couldn’t be further from the dark, dingy, dusty and often dismal second-hand used vinyl emporia of yesteryear.
But there’s substance as well as style here: reflecting the owners’ taste: punk, post-punk, DIY, jazz, psych, Krautrock, ambient, avant garde, electronic and synthpop are among the treats in the racks. Welcome to the exquisite World of Echo, one of the capital’s latest and greatest record shops, located a short walk from Liverpool Street and Bethnal Green on Columbia Road – home to the famous flower market – in East London.
