PUMPKIN SOUP WITH CHEESE STRAW SNAKES

INGREDIENTS
For the soup
• 1 tbsp sunflower oil• 2 onions, peeled and chopped• 2 carrots, peeled and diced• 600g/1lb 5½oz pumpkin, peeled and diced• ¼ red chilli, finely diced• 1 clove garlic, crushed• 900ml/1½pt chicken or vegetable stock• 50ml/2fl oz double cream (optional)• Salt and freshly ground black pepper
For the cheese straw snakes
• 1 x 320g packet puff pastry, defrosted if frozen• 25g/1oz Parmesan, grated• 25g/1oz Gruyere, grated• 1 egg, beaten• Poppy seeds, for sprinkling• Black olives, for eyes• Red pepper, for tongues
