There was no doubting who was the star of this year’s San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain, where Cate Blanchett collected the Donostia Award in recognition of her contribution to cinema.
Joining the ranks of Hollywood luminaries including Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro, the Australian actress had an impressive supporting cast, with tributes from film-maker Alfonso Cuarón and actor George Clooney.
Presenting her with the award, Alfonso, who directed Cate in new streaming series Disclaimer, praised her “insatiable fervour for life, for knowledge, for just causes and for art” and praised her work as an ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency and her environmental advocacy.
