Prue Leith, The Great British Bake Off judge, has been given a damehood for services to food, broadcasting and charity in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list this year. The South-African born restaurateur and cookery writer, 81, was honoured with an OBE in 1989 and a CBE in 2010.
Other stars named in the list include former Strictly Come Dancing judge and choreographer Arlene Phillips, who was also made a dame, and Oscar-nominated actor Jonathan Pryce, who has been given a knighthood. Scottish singer Lulu, 72, was awarded a CBE for her services to music, entertainment and charity, while Alison Moyet, who first topped the charts in the 1980s, received an MBE.
