Princess Mabel’s husband, Prince Friso of Orange-Nassau – the younger brother of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands – died, aged 44, in 2013, following a skiing accident; Princess Miriam’s husband, Bulgaria’s Kardam, Prince of Turnovo, 52, died two years later following a car crash.
