Friends and family of murdered journalist James Foley have paid moving tribute after his brutal execution in Syria shocked the world last week. “We’re very proud of him,” said his mother Diane. “He was a courageous, fearless journalist, very compassionate American.” The 40-year-old had previously covered the war in Libya and spent 44 days in jail there after being captured and had also spent time volunteering and teaching in disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the US.
