After winning double gold at the Paralympics last year, swimmer Ellie Simmonds donned the colour again – with a dashing touch of red – to be honoured at Bath University.
The 19-year-old, who is still completing her A-levels, made a splash as she was awarded an honorary doctorate of Law from the institution, receiving it from the new chancellor, the Earl of Wessex (below).
“It is great to get this degree, not only for myself, but for the whole of Paralympics GB, which trained at the university ahead of last summer’s games,” said Ellie.
Earlier, crowds had thronged the streets of the city to catch a glimpse of Prince Edward ahead of his investiture, which was held at Bath Abbey and watched by 240 guests, including his wife, Sophie.
