For decades his unmistakable voice was part of British life and last week tributes poured in after Sir Terry Wogan died aged 77. The veteran broadcaster died at home in Buckinghamshire on 31 January after having been diagnosed with cancer. Helen, his wife of more than 50 years, and his three children were at his bedside. The much-loved TV and radio host had kept his illness secret from all but his nearest and dearest. He left his weekly BBC Radio 2 slot in November on health grounds but told a friend that “everything is going to be all right”.
