COVERSTORY Without her persistence and a commendable steely resilience, we may never have known of Eva Apio. As a teenager, the model, influencer, DJ and founder of the Eva Apio Foundation was consistently knocked back by agencies on account of her height. Aged 16, when Eva headed off to a camping trip in Scotland, her father booked her in for meetings with London-based modelling agencies. “We went to each one by one,” she tells us from her hotel room in Los Angeles, where she is staying to attend the Golden Globes. “All of them said no, actually most of them said, ‘We’ll let you know’, which means no,” she says with a jokey sarcasm. Working on some of the most famous faces in the world has made Mario Dedivanovic a celebrity in his own right. We meet the 39-year-old in London during a promotional tour for his Makeup By Mario brand. Sipping an iced coffee, he explains where his love for make-up started: “When I was 17, working at Sephora. But I had been around it as a child. My mother worked as a cleaner at the L’Oréal headquarters and she’d bring home products. I’d see my sisters using them and I became fascinated. After living in New York for eight years, Ada moved back to her native Milan three years ago to find a home with boyfriend, Saverio Schiano Lomoriello. All a flutter MAGIC WANDS According to a recent survey by Nouveau Lashes, 50% of women have had lash treatments to make them feel more confident and attractive. Mascara can make an instant impact, but the type of brush you use makes all the difference: “A sparse, open wand will add lots of mascara, making the lashes full and chunky,” says MAC global senior artist, Dominic Skinner. “Tightly-packed bristles give light coverage, for a soft, fluttery finish.” Formula also plays a part. Tubing mascaras contain polymers that wrap around each lash (like a tube) for a lengthening effect, whereas fibre mascaras are made with microscopic fibres that attach to the hairs for a bulked-up lashline. “And always start by curling your lashes,” says Dominic. “It’s like Spanx for the eyes.”…

When in 2005, third-generation descendant Ursula Mascaró and her then husband, David Bell, launched Pretty Ballerinas under the family umbrella, the classic ballerina slippers became an instant hit.
