THE BODY ISSUE Being editor-in-chief of Harper’s BAZAAR is a huge privilege, as this magazine has the ability to open doors that are usually kept firmly closed. At the beginning of the year,we met with the team at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo to chat about the zoo’s 100th anniversary and how we could help celebrate. Personally, I have so many memories of Taronga. As a child, I would be driven with my brother up from Canberra to visit the zoo (I recall I once had a nightmare about snakes!), and as a teenager I caught the ferry from Manly to the zoo with my childhood sweetheart. Now I visit regularly with my husband and our two children, as we all love to see the animals and the stunning view the giraffes…

I AWAKE AND THUMB THROUGH my Instagram feed: there is the mother of three whose post shows she has made a delicious lunch for all her gorgeous children in 10 minutes — spinach-and-beetroot salad topped with a pistachio-cranberry compote — and they all loved it. Really. Another friend is strolling through Fabergé Museum in St Petersburg, Russia. There are Croatian sunsets on yachts, private helicopter rides, glassblowers in Murano, swimmers in the Blue Grotto and the Instagram perennial: avocado toast. In 1998, Inge Morath was interviewed by The New York Times on the occasion of a retrospective exhibition in celebration of her 75th birthday. During the interview, Morath told a story about her life in Berlin during World War II, when she was drafted to work in an aeroplane factory alongside Ukrainian prisoners of war, having refused to join the Hitler Youth.
