THIS CAREER has afforded many opportunities for me to turkey hunt. In 2023, I realized that I had taken all but an Eastern and Osceola with a Mossberg, including 12-gauge variants of the Model 500, 930 and 940. So, in 2024, I went back to the list and successfully harvested an Eastern in Illinois with the then-new 20-gauge over/under Silver Reserve Eventide Turkey. With that, I resolved to claim each subspecies using an affordable Mossberg.
I attempted to complete the World Turkey Slam in 2025, which consists of the Eastern, Gould’s, Merriam’s, Ocellated, Osceola and Rio.
