SINCE THE DAYS of the American Revolution, the area along the Connecticut River has been the heart of our nation’s firearms industry. It has been labeled “Gun Valley,” which included Colt in Hartford, Connecticut; Marlin in North Haven, CT; Remington in Ilion, New York; Ruger in Southport, CT.; Savage in Westfield, Massachusetts; Smith & Wesson, as well as the Springfield Armory, in Springfield, MA; Winchester in New Haven, CT; and others. Today, “Gun Valley” is nearly an anachronism. As state legislators, governors, attorneys general and judges in the northeast have grown hostile to the firearms industry, manufacturers are forced to leave.
