Because properly introducing your dog to these three items is so important, I’ve covered them one at a time with water in the Spring issue, birds in the Summer issue, and now, here, is my gun intro program.
What these three have in common is that if you don’t acclimate your dog to them step by step, you run the risk of creating a retriever that purposefully avoids them. If your dog is skittish around water, doesn’t want to retrieve birds, or tucks its tail and runs whenever a gun goes off, you’ll spend the next 10 years housing a very expensive couch cushion.
