Traffic formed in 1967 in Birmingham, England and released seven studio albums between 1967-’74, reuniting 20 years later for their final recording. The classic line-up comprised Steve Winwood (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Jim Capaldi (drums, vocals), Chris Wood (flute, sax, keys) and Dave Mason (vocals, guitar, sitar, bass).
But Winwood was already a star. At just 15 he’d joined The Spencer Davis Group (Keep On Running, Gimme Some Lovin’, I’m A Man) as lead singer, organist and guitarist. He left SDG in 1967 to form Traffic with Capaldi, Wood and Mason, releasing their first album, Mr Fantasy in 1967 on Island Records.
