PURELY FROM THE PERspective of playing guitar, I’m bummed out by women’s awards, articles on how women should be treated in guitar stores and at gigs, and pretty much everything that segregates women from the greater guitar community at large. Please understand that I have nothing at all against these initiatives— I’m simply disappointed that they remain necessary in a supposedly evolved society.
Now, say, if these shows, contests, articles, magazines, etc., existed simply for commercial reasons— meaning that more people could make a bit of money and promote themselves by engaging in such things, as well as, in the cases of televised or theatrical programming, provide employment for more musicians, videographers, broadcasters, set designers, sound crews, rental businesses, script writers, and so on—I would definitely understand that.
