Police must start taking misogyny more seriously in order to prevent tragedies such as the one in Ply mouth, a top prosecutor has said, after a man who had regularly expressed his hatred of women killed five people and then turned the gun on himself.
Nazir Afzal, who was previously chief crown prosecutor for north-west England, said Jake Davison should have been on a police watchlist.
Davison, 22, shot his 51-year-old mother, Maxine Davison, also known as Maxine Chapman, at a house in Biddick Drive before he went into the street and shot dead Sophie Martyn, aged three, and her father, Lee Martyn, 43. In the 12-minute attack last Thursday, Davison then killed Stephen Washington, 59, before shooting 66-year-old Kate Shepherd, who later died in hospital.
