Luke Donald’s runner-up spot at the RBC Heritage last month was notable for two things. First, for the fact that victory in that tournament somehow continues to elude him. Since 2009 he’s finished 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 37th, 3rd, 2nd, 15th, 2nd and 2nd. More notable though was Donald’s short game. At Harbour Town, Donald put on a masterclass of how to escape the sand, holing out from everywhere, including a brilliant birdie save on the 11th that kept him in touch of eventual winner Wesley Bryan. Consider it a very timely return to form in one of the strongest areas of his game.
