Iceland is far from being the home of golf, with even its oldest course well short of its centenary. But between 1934, when the Grafarholt course at Reykjavik Golf Club opened, and today, Iceland has acquired over 60 more golf courses and is now blessed with more per capita than any country… twice as many as the Home of Golf, Scotland.
Many are coastal layouts, serving up spectacular canvasses on which to play. There’s a particularly strong cluster in and around the capital, among them this strikingly diverse layout at Keilir, regarded by some as the best in the country. Keilir started out as a nine-holer in 1967, growing first to 12 and then finally to 18 holes by 1994.
