Reading Fergus Bisset's article on the 100 greatest things in golf [June issue], one element resonated with me: playing with your father or mother.
My father was, in his prime, a single-figure player and had a display cabinet filled with his club trophies. One, however, always stood out to me: the Father & Son he won with my grandfather. When I took up the game we used to play in it every year, but as I was, and still am, a high-handicapper and he was well past his prime, we never threatened the leaderboard.
