Sixteen more e-Home Affairs bank branches are being opened across South Africa this year, bringing the total to 35 countrywide.
In 2016, the Department of Home Affairs launched an electronic system that allows South African citizens to apply and pay for their smart IDs and passports online. After completing the online application, you can make an appointment with any bank offering a Home Affairs Live Capture Service, have your biometric details recorded and collect the document in question. No legendary Home Affairs queues, no problem!
The down side? You have to belong to the bank that offers the service, and up until now, these have been mainly concentrated in Johannesburg.
