De Mond is a sea-and-fynbos reserve near Struisbaai, where the Heuningnes River meets the Indian Ocean – and it’s easy to miss.
You might come across some African black oystercatchers on the beach, blue cranes in the veld and frogs in the wetland, but the wildlife isn’t the main attraction. Ah, the serenity! That’s why you come here.
The more well-known De Hoop Reserve is just up the road, diverting most tourists away from De Mond. Chances are you’ll have the 9 km beach all to yourself.
